University of Otago – Turn Your Story Into Something

The University of Otago needed a fresh way to appeal to Māori and Pasifika. They’re both underrepresented in the tertiary sector, and  challenging to reach through mainstream media.

TVNZ set out to Inspire a new generation through the lens of their whānau, providing a platform to hear the voices that matter to them – their own. To break down the cultural barriers we created a content partnership with two authentic platforms clearly trusted by the audience already, Fresh and RE:,.

“Turn Your Story into Something” – showcases stories from Māori and Pasifika alumni about their journey to UoO and beyond by creating content that is from them, to them. We gave Māori and Pasifika the opportunity to tell their own stories to their own people.

Such was the strength of the collaboration, Turn Your Story into Something forged a genuine connection with Māori and Pasifika audiences and drove unprecedented uplift in enrolments. University of Otago now has a successful long-term platform to speak to this audience.
