As the world watched the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen, TVNZ celebrated the momentous occasion with a special evening of programming that saw almost 1.2 million Kiwis tuning in to watch 1 NEWS Presents: Their Majesties’ Coronation and drew an average audience of 362,000*.  

The festivities kicked off with Melissa Stokes and Daniel Faitaua giving viewers a front row seat to all the excitement and ceremonial proceedings unfolding from London. TVNZ’s Europe Correspondent Mei Heron reported live on the events from the UK, while other members of the 1 NEWS team joined jubilant New Zealanders as they celebrated this momentous occasion. As the evening progressed and the Coronation commenced, TVNZ joined the BBC’s coverage so New Zealand viewers could witness all of the ceremonial events as they unfolded throughout the day, from the early military movements to the formal processions in the lead up to the Westminster Abbey service. 

Amongst AP5+, the day of the Coronation was TVNZ 1’s strongest Saturday in the last year, with TVNZ 1 achieving its highest average audience, reach and rating since May 2022**.

TVNZ’s Coronation coverage was the number one choice for Kiwis, with the average AP5+ audience 2.6 times larger than the average audience on Three***.
