Calling all our queens! RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is back

21st November 2022

Mama Ru is coming back Down Under, bringing her Emmy® Award winning series RuPaul’s Drag Race for a third season to TVNZ+ in 2023!

With drag artists across Australasia hoping to snatch the crown, viewers will once again see the fiercest Kiwi and Aussie queens go head-to-head, in the hopes of taking home the title and prize.

The first two seasons saw back-to-back Kiwi queen wins, with Spankie Jackzon taking it out for the mighty Manawatū and Kita Mean’s inaugural win. With this local format being able to be watched worldwide, it’s given Down Under’s drag a global platform and created opportunities for our local drag artists.

Returning once more to host RuPaul says: “I’m so excited for season three of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under! Australasian drag is spectacularly sickening, and I can’t wait for a new cast of queens to flash their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.”

On the series returning, TVNZ Director of Content Cate Slater says: “It’s clear viewers love seeing our local drag talent brighten up the screen, with the series sitting in our top local shows streamed on TVNZ+ this year.

“Our rangatahi audience have really responded to this season, having made up more than half of the viewers, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it back in 2023.”

Following the popular format, RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will see queens serving high fashion realness, mini and maxi challenges, shady and heartfelt moments in the workroom, and of course, the all-important lip-sync for your life battles.

The main judges, celebrity guest appearances and drag talent competing in the third season of Down Under will be announced at a later date.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will premiere on TVNZ+ in 2023.

New episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK are available Fridays on TVNZ+. The brand-new series Canada’s Drag Race vs The World, which features Down Under’s own Anita Wigl’it will premiere on November 19 on TVNZ+.
